English 11

English 11 is a two-part course that explores our nation’s history through literature and exploring how the idea of the American Dream has evolved over time. Students will begin in English 11-A by reading non-fiction and fiction accounts from the America’s origins to the American Revolution and finally ending with a comparison of McCarthy and The Crucible. Students will focus on persuasive language and writing and how words can be powerful weapons that can drastically affect the decisions and outcomes of events.

English 11-B continues to explore the American Dream as students start to see how the American Dream has changed in the modern age by reading The Great Gatsby, reading poetry and short stories from The Harlem Renaissance, and finally the play The Raisin in the Sun.
